What one word best sums up Nadina Embrey’s artwork? Poignant – defined by those who have followed her artwork over the last couple of decades – as being visually keen and strong in mental appeal. A unique combination of raw imagery, captivating delectables, and juxtaposed ideas, capable of moving and affecting the emotions.

Nadina approaches each drawing as a metamorphosis of an idea which must be methodically plucked out of the swirl of her mind. Best communicated in the “Art World” as provocative, erotic, and often times ridiculous. For those of you who enjoy puzzles and kitsch, Nadina’s artwork is worth a second and, even, third look. Each time an undiscovered detail emerges, each line deliberately placed or erased. Nadina’s style is undoubtedly consistent and recognizable. Delicate mechanical pencil sketches, black Sharpie’s®, and the brightest most nauseating combinations of succulent acrylic colors. A style nearly restricted to the homogeneous brew of bald-headed, amputated female figures in precarious, yet delicious, positions, oozing with “fluid streams” of emotions.

You won’t find much on a biography of Nadina. Those stories are shared over a cup of coffee. Happy childhood: check. Generous amounts of travel: check. Rich in experiences: check. The rest neatly unfolds in her artwork.

Recently emerging on the scene, after amassing a sizable portfolio of one-liners, biblical favorites, tasty finales, impaled horror d’oeuvres; and so on … we are treated to glimpses of the mind, heart, and soul which are Nadina. She can be found hanging around coffee shops, engaging the natives in half-senseless banter, volleying well-wishes to fellow LA artists and art-lovers.

In closure, if you have the pleasure of meeting Nadina ask her to describe her artwork. You will get a puzzled and prolonged pause. If you ask Nadina why she creates her artwork, she would answer, “Because it makes me smile”.
